Cuba

CUBA is the largest island in the Caribbean and the most “mysterious” as well; fairly inaccessible to Americans for many years.  Still the case, only sanctioned tours for specific approved reasons are possible.  This is rapidly changing, and the cruise industry has been granted permission to offer Cuba circumnavigation cruises under strict guidelines.  A U.S. citizen cannot officially wander about freely at will (as per U.S. Government regulations which is not enforced by Cuban Authorities).

With one main island about 760 miles long and 55 miles wide on average, 11 million inhabitants growing up under the influence of communist rule until fairly recently, this enigmatic country is unlike any other.  A Caribbean Island with all of the usual parameters associated with this; beaches, rain forest, proximity to the U.S., along with a history and culture unlike any other Caribbean Islands makes this a destination not to be missed.  From the capital city of Havana which is one of the nine UNESCO World Heritage sites on the island, to the powdery white sand beaches such as the 13 mile long Varadero Beach sitting on a peninsula, to the lush interior rising up to almost 6,500 feet above sea level, this island is amazing.

Although U.S. citizens have not been able to travel freely here, Canadians and many others have been flocking here for years to enjoy fine hand-rolled cigars on the delightful beaches and in historic Havana.  This means there is an infrastructure developed, which is ready to explode with the easing of restrictions with the U.S.  Some say a large influx of U.S. travelers may negatively impact the mystique that is Cuba.  We say, arrange your trip SOON so you don’t have to worry about it!!

Many of the regulations are aimed at preventing the Cuban Government to benefit directly from U.S. tourist dollars, with sanctions / regulations dis-allowing U.S. citizens from staying in accommodations  which the Government has a hand in operating, or on tours operated by the Government.  Many hotels and most of the tour operators are directly affiliated with the government, so a land-based vacation becomes difficult.

In response to the softening of relations between Cuba and the U.S.A. many cruise lines have quickly included Cuba in their programs.   In keeping with our specialization format, we are very confident that cruises operated by our featured cruise lines will more than satisfy your vacation desires within Cuba.
